Transitioning to Sports Management:
Meet Shawn Thornton,
Former Two-Time Stanley Cup NHL Player and Current VP of Operations from the Florida Panthers.

Come join fellow Wharton Alumni as we have an opportunity to meet with Shawn Thornton, former two-time Stanley Cup Champion and current VP of Operations for the Florida Panthers as he discusses the transition from NHL player to businessman and philanthropist.

Afterwards, alumni can both network and watch the Florida Panthers compete against the Philadelphia Flyers from the Lord Stanley’s Loft where a specialty buffet and full-service bar with complimentary wine and beer will be served.

Shawn Thornton is a former player in the National Hockey League who over twenty seasons played won two Stanley Cups, first with the Anaheim Ducks and then with the Boston Bruins. Having retired from regular season play in 2017, Shawn transitioned to the front office of the Florida Panthers where he’s the Vice President of Business Operations. He founded the Shawn Thornton Foundation and serves as the Foundation's President and Director. The Shawn Thornton Foundation is dedicated to helping find cures for diseases close to Shawn's heart, specifically Parkinson's and cancer. Through his foundation, Thornton holds an annual 'Pucks and Punches for Parkinson's' golf event and does charitable work throughout Boston and South Florida.

Note: Because of arena restrictions prior to game play, the talk with Shawn will start promptly at 6pm and conclude by 6:45 to afford alumni time to relocate to the Lord Stanley’s Loft for networking and drinks.

Note:
Bags or purses larger than 1’x1’ will NOT be permitted in the arena. Backpacks, backpack purses & drawstring bags will also not be permitted into BB&T Center
