FAU Tech Runway® is launching South Florida’s next generation of global entrepreneurs and creating an ecosystem that provides all the resources they need to thrive in one collaborative hub. The annual Launch Competition selects 21 of the most promising early-stage companies for the year-long “Venture Class” program, including seven student-led companies, seven faculty spinouts and seven community-based companies. Applications for this year’s Launch Competition are now being accepted through Friday, March 9.

Michael Karsch 
MKarsch.jpgMike Karsch has been a practicing business attorney since 1985. He has spent most of his career in corporate governance, corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions. He has participated in hundreds of financing transactions and acquisitions in his career, from multi-billion to start-up. His clients have ranged from some of America’s leading companies to local entrepreneurs in a broad range of businesses including, technology, Internet-based products, software, consulting services, financial services, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and consumer products. He has represented buyers, sellers, issuers, investors and lenders. Mr. Karsch also provides general corporate counseling on a broad range of issues, including formation and governance matters. Mr. Karsch has also served as a vice president and general counsel of two publicly-traded companies.

As a registered patent lawyer, Howard, along with his colleagues in the intellectual property practice, not only know how best to protect a client's unique assets, but how best to make them marketable and best use intellectual property for competitive advantage. Howard has advised his clients in instituting cradle-to-grave IP regimes, to licensing IP and building joint development programs around a client's IP.

Marty Schultz, serial entrepreneur
MartySchultz.jpgMarty Schultz is a mentor-speaker, angel fund investor, award-winning innovator and has boot-strapped and grown over five companies in his career. He started an enterprise messaging company in the 1990’s and took it public prior to the Internet explosion, and he built one of the first software-as-a-service companies, and recently sold it in a strategic acquisition. A firm believer in sharing his knowledge with others, Marty mentors entrepreneurs and has presented at several startup and venture capital conferences. He holds degrees from Harvard Business School and Carnegie Mellon University.
