Wharton Alumni Clubs Update
A message from the Dennis Custage, President of the Wharton Club of South Florida.
Dear Fellow Members of the Wharton Club of South Florida,
I just returned from a meeting of representatives of Wharton Alumni Clubs. As usual it was stimulating to be back on our ever-changing campus! Let me share with you a short summary of what went on.
Data was shown that recognized that our Alumni clubs are the single most important element in creating brand awareness for the school. Additionally, alumni involved in the clubs are much more likely to support the school in a variety of ways. Therefore, alumni clubs are being given greater emphasis by the school. In order to do that the make-up of the alumni council is being modified to provide greater participation by leaders of the various clubs. Our club, in particular, has achieved great visibility through the contributions to the council that our own Stuart Hill has provided (he has been instrumental in the development and implementation of the new web site that is now available to all of the clubs) and by the fact that I have been elected an Adjunct member of the council which will allow me to influence future decisions. Our Executive Vice President, David Cruice attended the conference and participated as a panelist during one of the sessions.
You will have noticed enhancements in our web site. However you may not have taken advantage of the fact that we are now linked with other clubs and the school in a seamless way. We were one of the early adaptors of the new platform which will be of ever greater value as more clubs come on line. As a member of our club you will get great benefit by being able to access our global community.
Additionally, as a member of our club you will have access to affinity clubs that are available to us. Two of these clubs are Wharton Private Equity Club and a newly formed Alternative Energy Club. Further information about these clubs will be shared with you shortly.
Now, let me share a concern with you. We face a tough year this year as companies and individuals cut back on spending. Most business people will value a club like ours as being even more important in times like these because of the business education and business networking we do. Please reach out to fellow alumni and make sure that they are aware of the club and its activities. The more members we attract, the richer our experience will be.
Besides happy hours and other networking events that our members are invited to by other business clubs we associate with, the following is a list of the programs we have scheduled. With minor exceptions, the events we run are free of charge to our paid up members.
Events
Career Management – November
Year End Cocktail Party – December
Economic Forecast – January
Corporate Growth – March
The Environment – April
Statesman of the Year – May
If you haven’t already done so, please renew your membership so that we can have you join us at these events. Please also invite your Wharton alumni friends to join.
Best regards,

Dennis Custage
